The AI-visibility self-test
Open ChatGPT (with search on) and Perplexity. Run these as your buyer would, then count how many times your name shows up. Most businesses score zero. Say the date out loud if you record it, the answers shift.
Best [what you do] in [your city] for [your ideal customer]. Give me a short list of names with a one-line reason for each.
Who is the most trusted [your category] in [your city]? Name the ones people actually recommend and why.
I'm a [customer type] trying to [outcome they want]. Which [your category] in [your city] should I contact first, and who should I avoid?
Compare the top [your category] options in [your city] for someone who cares most about [the thing your buyer cares about].
Run all four on ChatGPT and Perplexity = eight answers. Count how many name your business. 0 = invisible. 1–2 = lucky. 3+ across both engines = you're in the conversation. Nobody can promise you a spot, the goal is consistent presence, not one good answer.
Is your site even readable to AI?
The crawlers don't see your pretty site. They see raw text, or nothing. Two fast checks.
Open yoursite.com/robots.txt in a browser. Look for lines like 'User-agent: GPTBot' or 'User-agent: ClaudeBot' followed by 'Disallow: /'. If you see that, you are telling the AI to stay out. Remove those blocks unless you mean them.
Here is the visible text from my homepage: [paste it]. Reading only this, tell me in plain words: what does this business do, who is it for, and where does it operate? Then list anything important that is missing or unclear.

Here are my notes, messages, and to-dos from yesterday: [paste]. Give me a 5-line morning brief: what moved, what's stuck, the 3 things that matter most today, and one thing I'm probably forgetting.
Here are emails I need to handle: [paste]. For each, give me a one-line summary, how urgent it is, and a short reply draft in my voice. Draft only. I'll review and send myself.
Here are my raw meeting notes: [paste]. Pull out the decisions made, the open questions, and a clear action list with an owner and a due date for each. Flag anything that was left unresolved.
Here is a customer review/message: [paste]. Write a calm, specific reply in my brand voice that addresses their actual point, no corporate filler. Give me one warm version and one more formal version.
Here's one thing I want to say: [paste your point]. Turn it into a short LinkedIn post (hook first, teach one thing, soft close) and an Instagram caption. Same idea, my voice, no hype words.
Build a content engine that sounds like you
The reason generic AI writing sounds generic: it has no idea who you are. Give it a room it never leaves. Three small files, about fifteen minutes.
Write my voice rules as five plain bullets the AI must follow every time. Fill these in: 1) I sound like [describe how you talk]. 2) I never use these words: [list]. 3) Sentence length: [short/varied]. 4) I always [a habit, e.g. lead with the point]. 5) I never [a habit, e.g. open with 'In today's world'].
Paste one post, email, or paragraph you actually like, then tell the AI: this is the standard. Match this voice and rhythm. The AI learns more from one good example than from ten instructions.
Define the shapes you output: e.g. 'LinkedIn post = hook line, one lesson, soft CTA. IG caption = 1 hook + 3 short lines. Script = cold-open question, then teach.' Keep it to the formats you actually use.
Using my voice rules, my example, and my formats: take this one topic = [topic]. Give me a short script, a LinkedIn post, and an Instagram caption. Same idea, three shapes. Then I'll tell you what's wrong and you fix it, every correction becomes part of how this room works.
